Do you know the REAL history of Charlotte's Second Ward? Located in Charlotte’s Second Ward, the Brooklyn neighborhood was a predominantly black community that thrived as a self-sustainable town within a town. With vibrant shops, schools and places of worship, Brooklyn was home to some of the black community’s families from all socioeconomic backgrounds.  For most of the 20th century, when Southern blacks and whites were separated by segregation, it was the center of African-American life in Charlotte. These days, the area that was once Brooklyn is where you’ll find the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, Marshall Park and the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
